The Will to Say Goodbye

I didn't know how hard it is to say goodbye until today.
I didn't know how hard it is to walk away.

It takes courage.
It takes decisiveness;
to say goobye and not have regrets,
to say goodbye and not have questions on "what might have been."
to be sure that saying goodbye is the best option.

It takes strength and will
to go past the memories
and look at what's in the present
and what may be in the future
and remember that the decision should lie in the present and future
and not in the past.

It takes faith
a faith in the universe
that you are destined to be in a much better position than this
so that you can let go of the things that you believe you don't deserve.

It takes guts
to hurt someone
for your good and theirs
and to answer firmly that you are done thinking it over.

It takes kindness
to say goodbye in the least hurtful way
to say the least hurtful words
to explain in the least hurtful manner
the things that hurt you the most.

It takes patience
to find the time
when you can tell them directly
that you are actually saying goodbye.
